Guatemala: Homes for Hope

Project #72003
Church Planting Guatemala Latin America

This project is now fully funded. Thank you!

Avant has a rich history of dynamic ministry in Guatemala. A country that was once unreached with the gospel now has a growing Church and is becoming a hub for training and sending missionaries to the ends of the earth. We praise the Lord for this impactful legacy, but more work in Guatemala remains. There are still places where people need to hear the hope of the gospel.

One such place, called El Encinal, is a neighborhood situated on the outskirts of Guatemala City where some 55 families live in extreme poverty. Many of them live in makeshift houses put together with scraps of tin or wood and tarps. Their houses are not stable, and they struggle to stay dry and warm. It is also difficult for many of these families to put food on the table.

Avant has missionaries ministering to this population. Their outreach includes after school tutoring with a nutritious meal, Bible studies, and more. They’ve seen that despite the daily challenges these people face, their hearts are open to the gospel.

A new opportunity has arisen to build “tiny homes” for several of the families whose current homes are in bad shape. These families were given small plots of land to live on, where these homes can be built and owned by the families, significantly improving their quality of life. Avant has created a project to fund the construction of two tiny homes in El Encinal. Each 23X20 foot home will cost $9,900 to construct. The homes include two bedrooms, a family room, a kitchen, and an indoor bathroom. Avant’s goal is to fund the construction of two homes with the possibility of more in the future.

Our hope is that the light of Christ will overcome the darkness and hopelessness in this neighborhood and that, as new believers grow in their faith and thrive as families, a new church will be planted in El Encinal.
