Reaching Youth to Change Communities
Ministry Location: US Hispanic Ministries
Marissa partnered with Avant Ministries in January 2023, though her journey with missions started long before that. God called Marissa to missions in her final year of high school. God used Marissa’s first missional experience in Honduras, along with other intercultural trips, to ignite in her a passion for reaching people throughout Latin America for the glory of God. She attended Corban University in Salem, Oregon, graduating in 2017 with a BA in Business Administration and minors in Biblical Studies and Intercultural Studies. She further developed her Spanish skills at schools in Guatemala and Southern Texas.Marissa’s primary ministry focus is youth ministry. She passionately believes that reaching young people during their formative years is essential to helping them develop a relationship with Christ. Over the years, she has volunteered as a youth leader at several churches, acted as interim youth director for a Guatemalan outreach, and as a residential counselor at a boarding school for at-risk girls. God has continued to develop her skills in reaching youth for Christ, especially through evangelism and discipleship.
After finishing her first missionary assignment in Argentina (2024-2025), Marissa returned to the States to marry Gonzalo Yumiceba in May 2025, whom she met at language school in 2023. They are currently working in a Spanish church plant north of Cincinnati, Ohio. Marissa is still working as a missionary while in the States, particularly focusing on the Spanish women’s ministries and youth outreach. Gonzalo is working towards applying to Avant, and they hope to become long-term missionaries in Latin America as church planters.
