Reaching Youth to Change Communities
Marissa has been engaging in international missions since 2011, when she went on her first mission trip to Honduras in high school. God has used that experience, along with several other intercultural trips, to ignite in her a passion for reaching people throughout Latin America for the glory of God.Marissa’s primary ministry focus is youth ministry. Marissa passionately believes that reaching young people during their formative years is essential to developing their own relationship with Christ. Over the past years, she has volunteered as a youth leader at several churches and worked as an interim youth director at an outreach in Guatemala and as a residential counselor at a Teen Challenge boarding school. God has continued to develop her skills in reaching youth for Christ, especially through evangelism and discipleship.
Through her short-term missions and youth ministry experiences, God has been cultivating a skill set for Marissa to be successful in long-term missions.
Marissa joined Avant Ministries in January 2023 to assist Latin American church plants in their youth ministries. Her first assignment is in Argentina to help with a soccer outreach called Goles, Gracia, Gloria (GGG). She plans to cultivate a space that offers youth real encounters with Christ and equips them to radically affect their communities for His glory as a result.
In her free time, Marissa enjoys gardening, cooking, hiking, hanging out with friends, reading a book (most likely C.S. Lewis or Jane Austen), and finding a new adventure. She attended Corban University in Salem, Oregon, and graduated in 2017 with a BA in Business Administration and minors in Biblical Studies and Intercultural Studies. In 2019, she spent four months at Christian Spanish Academy in Antigua, Guatemala.
