Project Details:
In 2003, Avant facilitated the purchase of a 10,000-watt AM station in the city of Nova Russas in northeast Brazil. AM-780 is the first Christian station in the region. It is currently broadcasting to a potential listening audience of 1.2 million people living in small towns and isolated villages within a 150-mile radius. Response has been tremendous, with five new churches already forming as a result of the Christian programming.

Eventually, AM-780 will be a commercially sponsored station, independent of outside financial support. At the time of purchase, Avant built a subsidy into the budget to allow the station time to attract local advertisers. However, that subsidy has expired, and the station has not yet attained self-sufficiency. Some advertisers pulled their contracts when they learned we would not be offering kickbacks as the previous station owner had.

The longer the station is on the air, the more new contracts are generated. Old advertisers are returning on the new terms. But in the interim, we need God’s people to step forward and help maintain the momentum of this fledgling ministry. Avant invites you to join us in sharing the gospel with the unreached people of northeast Brazil where less than 2 percent of the population is evangelical. Your help is needed to provide a temporary subsidy to allow this station time to make the transition to a self-sustaining commercial enterprise.

AM 780 currently needs $8,057 per month to stay on the air uninterrupted. That means that for $11.20 you can provide an hour of Christian radio programming to unreached Brazilians! Sponsor one hour or...

  • Sponsor a morning of programming for $44.80
  • Sponsor an 8-hour "day of broadcasting" for $89.60
  • Sponsor a full day of radio for $268.80
