As the dollar hits historic lows, few feel the effects more than international missionaries. It's a problem that's not unique to Avant either. In
January, USA Today ran the headline,
"Weak Dollar Undercuts Missionaries, Relief Workers." The introduction said:
- "For missionaries and faith-based relief
groups, the weak dollar has been a major headache. It's caused them to cut back on budgets and
cancel projects around the world. And
it's made the small things of daily life, like buying groceries or gas, more
difficult." It concluded with:
"The dollar may be worth less, but
the problems and needs haven't lessened ... U.S. donors may have to be even
more generous."
