Team Italy One Arrives E-mail

GENOVA, Italy – Team Italy One has officially landed in Genova, Italy. Phil and Donna Pace and their family traveled to Italy on October 31, the final members of Team Italy One to arrive on the field.

The team has been deploying over the last few months, and the Paces join Tim and Amee Kroeker, Andrew and Natalie Debelak, Sheila Busenitz, Dustin Mahoney and Alicia Kliewer. In the weeks to come, team members will search for lodging and start language classes.

As the first Short-Cycle Church Planting® team in Italy, Team Italy One seeks to plant an Italian-led church in the city of Genova. In November, they will kick off an initiative to share the gospel with 100 Italians in 100 days. This is an exciting goal that shows the passionate nature of the team, said Scott Harris, vice president of field ministries.

"This team is filled with gifted people who are extremely passionate about reaching the lost and who have set the bar very high in terms of their goals,” said Harris. “We could see some very exciting things develop."

Genova has a population of 800,000 people, yet few evangelical churches exist in the city. Team Italy One hopes that a church plant will invigorate the gospel witness in Genova, which is a busy port city as well as a center of immigration.

David Hansen Returns to Avant Ministries as Vice President of Global Partnerships E-mail

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Avant Ministries recently announced David Hansen will join the leadership team as vice president of global partnerships, a new position for the missionary-sending organization.

The announcement marks an exciting development in the relationship between Hansen and Avant Ministries. Hansen and his wife Judy were commissioned as Avant missionaries in 1973. They served in Italy until 1984, when David accepted a position with Back to the Bible. Hansen also served faithfully on Avant’s board of directors for 12 years.Hansen’s cross-cultural experiences and participation in the mission program at Lincoln Berean Church in Lincoln, Neb., provide a strong platform for his new position. “I feel like God has been preparing me for this job for the past 34 years,” said Hansen. “The same is true for Avant. We are coming together at a God-given moment in my life and the life of Avant.”

As the vice president of global partnerships, Hansen will be responsible to develop, execute and expand new ministry partnerships for Avant, both internationally and in the U.S. He will focus primarily on Joint Venture, a program partnering churches with Avant’s resources to create church-planting teams.

Paul Nyquist, president of Avant Ministries, believes Hansen’s experience, skill and character will enable Avant to grow domestically and internationally. He said, “God has seen fit to bless us and connect Dave back to Avant at a most strategic time for us.”

Recap: Annual Conference 2007 E-mail
KANSAS CITY, Missouri – The Avant Ministries Annual Conference took place last week at the International Service Center (ISC) in Kansas City. Active and retired Avant missionaries attended the conference and events along with ISC staff members and their families.

Jeff Adams, senior pastor of Kansas City Baptist Temple, was the featured speaker for the conference.  His series, "Growing Older, Not Obsolete," explored Joshua 13-15 and focused on faithful Christian service regardless of an individual's stage in life.

Highlights of the week included a field ministry update from Scott Harris and Mark Bruner. Their presentation included news from Malaga Media Center and Team Italy One members Tim K. and Dustin M.  Bruner also conducted a live phone interview with a member of Team Central Asia, who reported on the team's progress since arriving in the field earlier this summer.

On Wednesday night, the conference concluded with the Annual Banquet.  The ceremony included a time to honor new retirees and featured special music by Jim Spencer, a nationally acclaimed songwriter.
