Every day our
missionaries reach beyond their comfort zone to strengthen the kingdom. They
interact with people, learning the language and culture, spreading the Gospel
and sharing the hope of salvation. It is because of their tireless efforts that
the church is planted in places where there is no church.
While Avant had
heard a lot of anecdotal evidence about changes in global ministry at churches,
there was not an empirical study to support those claims. It was time we
reached beyond our knowledge and asked churches how we could become better
partners, to learn from the churches, to work together better to the ultimate
goal of impacting eternity. This was the purpose of a recent survey conducted
by Dr. Doug Wilson and Adelle Johnson of Avant Ministries and Dr. Robert Priest
of Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (TEDS). To learn how churches and
mission agencies could better cooperate, a survey was sent to over 1,200
churches.
The ground-breaking
research told a story we all needed to hear; the story of a relationship
between churches and mission agencies working together for the kingdom. Not
only did we listen, we changed our priorities. Avant Ministries is partnering
with local churches, forming Joint Ventures to plant more churches in less time.
Imagine the possible results if mission
agencies and churches worked together to recruit, train and send teams to the
mission field; an increase in direct cooperation can allow more teams to plant
more churches in less time. Through Joint Venture both the church and the
agency own key aspects of the relationship. A partnership between Avant and the
church allows each entity to focus on their strengths, creating a synergistic partnership
to accomplish kingdom work.
