Candidate Orientation Program PDF Print E-mail

Avant's Candidate Orientation Program (COP) is a two-week training program held at our International Service Center in Kansas City, Missouri. All missionary candidates seeking to serve more than six months on the field are required to attend COP. COP is held twice a year - once in January and once in July.

Upon successful completion of COP, candidates become commissioned missionaries at a commissioning service held with our International Board of Directors. Completion of COP also officially kicks off the official missionary support-raising process.

While attending COP, candidates stay in the Avant Ministries Training Center and child care is provided. Avant missionaries and leaders then train and educate candidates on a variety of subjects including:

  • Cross-Cultural Ministry
  • Personal Support-Raising
  • Leadership Development
  • Individual Spiritual Growth on the Field
  • Team Building
  • Presentation Skills
  • Managing Finances
  • Writing with Passion
  • History of Missions
  • History of Avant
During COP, candidates will also have the opportunity to meet the Avant support staff, learn more about  member benefits and begin working with staff to create resources like prayer cards and presentations for use in their ministries. For more information about COP, send us an Information Request.
