Project Details:
In Central Asia, fatherless
children, drug trafficking, natural disasters and widespread poverty
characterize desperate societies. But these tragic realities open a
door for the gospel of Jesus Christ in a region that is 90 percent
Muslim.
By God’s grace, Avant is beginning a church-planting movement among the
people of a key country in Central Asia (for security reasons we cannot be more specific). Today, 64 percent of the people
there live on less than $1 per day. Widespread poverty contributes to increased
criminal activity – especially in the realm of narcotics addiction and
drug trafficking. Mudslides, floods and earthquakes wreak havoc in
the lives of Central Asia’s people. Poor, fatherless families already
on the brink of disaster are pushed over the edge by these catastrophes.
But even more devastating than physical suffering is spiritual emptiness.
Today, 90 percent of the population claims Islam as its religion. An
additional 9 percent describe themselves as “non-religious.” Only 0.1
percent of the people are evangelical Christians.
In this nation of seven million, there have been no more than 3,000 converts to Christianity in the last 14 years!
But there is hope. In the face of poverty, natural disasters and crime,
people are hungering for meaning in their lives. Islam is not
satisfying.
In Central Asia we will demonstrate the love of Christ by meeting
physical needs. We will help provide disaster management, medical aid
and
legal advocacy for individuals in crisis situations. But our focus will
always be to point others to Jesus Christ. Our aim is to plant not
just one
church, but to begin an entire network of reproducing churches.
You can be a part of a
pioneer effort to plant a new network of
churches in one of the most unreached areas of the world. You can help
transform Central Asia!
